Last year was definitely one of my most challenging years I have experienced. It was filled with set backs, in definition it was a emotional financial roller coaster. However I learned a lot about myself and I believe I have grown as well. God did answer my prayer and allow me to see myself at my worst and at my best and I must say that I am going to take all that I have learned and move forward.
This takes me tomy hashtag for this year is #stepoverandstepforward it was birthed during watch night service and I told a friend who was sitting next to me while my pastor was preaching and as soon as I said it Pastor confirmed it !! Why this hashtag well over the past four years I have been hurt, and betrayed very deeply by people whom I thought saw me as a friend. While this experience allowed me to see who my real friends where and find my true love. It hurt like hell, and for the better part of four years I have allowed those experiences to hindering and even cloud my judgement I even self barricaded myself spiritually, mentally, physically and career wise. MAN!!!! How could I allow this ? Easy I am human and we are always prone to protect ourselves and our family even if it hurts. WELL NO MORE!!!! that was so last year.
I am determine to make this hashtag more than a cliche. We all make mistakes right? Hey you might have just made one now but stepping forward takes more than physical action its all in the mind. Have you ever stated you have gotten over something and as soon as a similar situation arises you reacted the same way? Then we lie to ourselves and say it was a modified reaction? Lies and lies it was the same reaction it only seemed "different" or "modified" because you realized that the situations where similar and changed your action in the middle of your acting out.
Phillippians 3:13 states "..but this one thing I do forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forth to those things which are before. The next verse speaks states " I press towards the mark ... (Philippians 3:14). I do not want to preach but I do want to encourage. Paul states that he is going to forget what he has already gone through and reach forward . I think it is safe to say that Paul coined this hashtag first and I just modified it. Yes is hard and at first we have "modified" reactions to similar situations;however, what I am saying is take the lesson learned from the past modify the lesson apply it to yourself and keep it moving and don't look back. So if last year you made a mistake in your career learn the lesson create a technique to which you will not do it again and on to the next challenge. I hope you can join me in this effort LETS GO 2015

Growing UP a little
As a young adult being in church my whole life. I have one, learned a lot and two made a lot of mistakes. Can I get an Amen? Today in my devotion I was drawn to two scriptures in particular
First Scripture
"Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest though also be like unto him". Provers 28:8 (AMP)
Ehmm, you see how I was gently reminded by God that is not always necessary to enlighten everyone? Sometimes being wise requires one to simply just be quiet in times where we feel like we got to say something. Could this thought be the key to living peaceably with all men? hmm
Second scripture
"He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belongings not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by his ears" Proverbs 26:17
To meddle means to interfere in something that is none of ones concern. This speaks to our natural nature. We ALWAYS want to fix something or "correct an issue". Make things better and blah blah blah.. Yet again I was gently reminded that it is just easier to pray and leave all things to our savior not to mention it is a lot less stressful using this method. Plus are you really going to walk up to a pitt-bull and pull its ear? I bet you that you won't!
So tying it all together, today I was encouraged that "less is more"and that God's word is never outdated. Our spiritual walk requires personal relationship with our savior. Yes even on the job, we might want to interfere wether for political gain, to be seen, or just to appear like we got it all together. However we got to start saying that next time a situation arises, we are going take a second look within and say "hey, do I really need to be involved?" " God what you are saying about this?" or my favorite "Ain't got time for that, cause the way my relationship with God is set up I need ALL my energy to keep myself from being myself (being that old carnal man)."
Short, sweet and to the point, until next time be happy, stay healthy and remained bless

Barnabas
Good morning all! I haven't blogged in a while but this thought has been on my mind for while now. It started with my pastor when one Wednesday night I went to bible study and we were focusing on the ministry of encouragement. "Now Joseph, a Levite and native of Cyprus who was surnamed Barnabas by the apostles, which interpreted means Son of Encouragement". (Acts 4:36 AMP).
Barnabus, all though we don't here about him as often as Paul, was the apostle of encouragement. His life exemplified love, support and yes encouragement. He was so much an encourager that he and Paul had a disagreement over a young preacher named John Mark this event is found in Acts 15: 39-41. You see Paul didn't see John Mark as effective enough to be used in the kingdom but Barnbus saw potential. Long story short the two parted ways and Barnabas trained and encouraged John Mark to the point that Paul had to comment on what a great asset John Mark was to the Kingdom ( 2 Timothy 4:11). Wait a minute lets back track, Barnabus is solely responsible for supporting Paul's reconciliation with the said church he prosecuted. Hmmm... So my thoughts, yes we are very busy trying to "keep it together" withing our chosen career paths, pay bills and being envolved in our respected ministries but are we encouraging the young people who are closely behind or are we tearing them apart? If you are like me you might want to but simply don't have the time. Well let's try this lets smile and give hugs when we can. Drop a word of love and prayer via Facebook or other social media outlets let's see if we can love someone back to a relationship with Chirst or affirm another. Let smile and save our young people. Until next time , whenever that is ... Keep healthy, be happy and remain blessed.

Wake up to break up
"HE IS NO GOOD FOR KAY!" said my very opinionated sister. Ok so I admit this title is a little weird right? Well look at it this way we have all experienced a relationship that everyone else but you has realized is no good for you. Wether it was poor compatibility, abusive or literally un healthy at some point you became aware and "woke up". At the time my sister quoted the phrase above I was very much unaware of the situation in which I was placing myself. In fact it was after the break up that I woke up and saw what she saying. Ok so what does a story on breaking off a relationship have to do with this blog post? Ok lets go to the word. Philippians 1:21-22 KJV states
[21] For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. At what point do you wake up and realize that YOUR living IS Christ ? Good morning and hello!! For the apostolic christian professional in all of our successes, failures and future endeavors is our living Christ like, in our secular offices?
"... To die is gain" this is the break up part. To make a change you must first become aware, aroused, stimulated or for the sake of this blog " wake up". Breaking off a relationship is NOT easy, especially when you first become aware that a change is mandatory, all the emotions the crying, insomnia, and putting away our desires of wanting to go back with the individual. Sounds familiar ? Breaking, tearing down and putting away our egos are all that occur during a "break up" between two individuals. How much more is the separation from the secular world as we profile Christ in our lives, while striving to be the best in a world that hates Christ? Yes I said profile, what is the point of being a Christian if we not profiling though? The unique part about us Apostolic's/ Christian's is that we are meant to be the best. "And the Lord shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the Lord thy God... Deuteronomy 28:13.
As a professional I realize it might be challenging to faithfully obey all the commandments, we shout on Sunday and we walk into a "situation" on Monday. We have desires outside of Christ which is why we have done well so far right ? The promotions, good paycheck, and modest living. The problem is not our desires and ambitions, it is when the push to get promoted is greater than the push to demonstrate Christ yes...... Ehhmm .... Until next time keep healthy, be happy and remain blessed.

Just the Beginning
For I know the thought that I think towards you saith The Lord thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end" (Jeremiah 29:11). Comforting and encouraging right? One thing I have learned since being a professional is that being young and smart at the same time attracts "all types of attention" you have those who are supportive, those who are negative, and finally those who actively try to damage or distort your good work. I have had my share of experiences and those words that God spoke to Jeremiah have and continue to encourage me. As a generation Xer I have attained and accomplished more than my parents when they where my age and intend to maintain this trend. I am a Registered Nurse with a MSN/Ed, attain a PhD and would like to start a business but that is another blog for another time. Yes I am proud of myself but what I am most proud about is maintaining a Godly perspective in all that I do. A Godly perspective is important, what's more important success on this earth or eternal life? What happens after all your success ? We can dress the outer man for success but does the inner man match up? A ha! I have your attention don't I? Well hopefully in future blog posts I want to share how I keep my "inner man" in check with Godly perspective. Until my next blog keep healthy, be happy and remain blessed.
